Diploma Thermal Engineering 1 Important Questions
Dear Friends
We are adding Study Material for Thermal Engineering 1 Important Questions for the Unit 2 – 3 Marks.
Syllabus
Modes of heat transfer – heat transfer by conduction – Fourier’s Law – heat transfer by convection –heat exchanger – Parallel flow and Counter flow– heat transfer by radiation – Description only.
- Explain the different Modes of Heat Transfer.
There are three modes of heat transfer. Examples of modes of heat transfer of those are given below.
-
- Conduction
- Convection
- Radiation
-
Define Conduction
- Conduction of Heat is a process where heat is transferred from the hotter part of the body to the colder part without involving any actual movement of the body molecules.
3. What is Convection?
This is a process where heat is transferred in both liquid and gases from a region of higher temperature to that of lower temperature
4. Explain Radiation
Radiation of heat is the process where heat is transferred from one to another body without involving the medium molecules.
- What is Thermal Conductivity
- Thermal Conductivity is the ability of a material to conduct the heat
- The value of Thermal Conductivity (k) is differs from material to material
- Thermal Conductivity of a material is changes with change in temperature
- Explain Heat Exchanger
- Heat Exchanger is a device which transfers the heat from hot fluid to clod fluid.
- Heat transfer takes place by conduction, Convection and radiation
- Heat Exchangers are used in Automobiles, Boiler plants, Refrigerators & Air– Conditioners
- What are the different types of heat exchanger?
-
-
- Parallel Flow Heat Exchanger
- Counter flow heat exchanger
-
- What is Parallel flow Heat Exchanger?
In Parallel flow heat exchanger, both fluids (Hot & Cold) enters at the same end and leaves at the other end
- What is Counter flow heat exchanger?
In Parallel Flow heat Exchanger, the flow of fluid iin the opposite direction. i.e. Hot Fluid Enter at one end & Cold fluid enters at the other end.
- Define LMTD
- LMTD means Logarithmic Mean Temperature Difference
- LMTD is a method used int the analysis of an heat exchanger to determine the heat transfer rate.
- What is Black Body
Black body which absorbs all incident radiation
- What is White body?
White Body which reflects all incident radiation
- What is Opaque Body?
Opaque body which does not transmit any incident radiation
- What is transparent Body?
Transparent body which transmits all incident radiation
- What is Grey Body?
Grey body which absorbs some incident radiations
