10 Marks questions

  1. Explain the working of vapour absorption refrigeration system with a neat sketch.
  2. A surface condenser is required to condensate 25,000 kg of steam per hour at a presence of 0.12 bar 0.88 dry cooling water enters at 30o C.  and leaves at 40o C. If the velocity of water in the tubes should not exceed 2 m/s. determine the number of 25 mm inner diameter tubes. That must be used to build the condenser. Condenser temperature is 49oC.
  3. A surface condenser is designed to handle 17,500 kg of steam per hour. The steam enters at 0.2 bar pressure and 87% dry and is condensed to water at 60oC. The circulating water enters at 40oC and leaves at 50oC. The condenser is made of 20 mm inside diameter tubes. If the velocity of water in the tubes should not exceed 1.78 m/s. determine the number of tubes that must be used to build the condenser.
  4. Explain the working of a vapour compression refrigeration system with a neat sketch.
  5. A surface condenser is designed to handle 17,600 kg of steam per hour. The steam pressure is 0.2 bar pressure and its quality is 0.88 dry and cooling water enters at 40oC and leaves at 50oC . The condenser is made of 23 mm inside diameter tubes. If the velocity of water in the tubes should not exceed 1.8 m/s. determine the number of tubes that must be used to build the condenser. The temperature of the condenser is 60oC.
  6. Explain the working of a thermal power plant with a neat sketch.
