Unit – 3, Design of friction drives (flat belt and v-belt)
NOTE :
1. The highlighted Questions are asked more than two times in the Board Exam
- These Questions are collected from Board Examination Question Papers.
All are 15 marks questions
- Select a flat belt from manufacturer’s catalogue to transmit power of 15kW at 1200 rpm. The speed of the driven pulley is 450 rpm. Maximum center distance between the shafts is 2m. Assume steady load.
- Design V- belt drive to the following specifications.
Power to be transmitted= 75kW
Speed of driving wheel= 1440rpm
Speed of driven wheel= 400rpm
Diameter of driving wheel= 300mm
Center distance=2500mm
Small pulley factor ‘kd’ = 1.14
Service factor ‘ks’ = 1.3
Correction factor for length ‘kt’= 1.07
- Design a belt drive based on manufacturer’s data to transmit 22.5kW at 740 rpm to an aluminium rolling machine. The speed ratio is 3. The distance between the pulleys is 3m. the diameter of the rolling machine pulley is 1.2m
- Design a V- belt drive based on manufacturer’s data to the following specifications:
Dia. Of driven pulley = 600mm
Dia. Of driving pulley=200 mm
Center distance between pulleys = 1000mm(approx.)
Speed of driven pulley=400rpm
Speed of driving pulley=1200rpm
Power transmitted=10kW
Service – heavy duty=16 hours / day.
- Design V- belt drive to the following specifications.
Power to be transmitted = 80kW
Speed of driving wheel =1350rpm
Speed of driven wheel = 450rpm
Diameter of driving wheel = 300mm
Center distance =2.4m
Small pulley factor ‘kd’ = 1.2
Service factor ‘ks’ = 1.4
- Design a belt drive based on manufacturer’s data to transmit 22.5kW at 740 rpm to an aluminium rolling machine. The speed ratio is 3. The distance between the pulleys is 3m. the diameter of the rolling machine pulley is 1.2m. Use manufacturer’s data. Assume the following.
- Load correction factor ks = 1.5
- Pulley correction factor kd = 0.9
- Open belt drive
- Use fabric – high speed duck belt.
- Design a V – belt drive using manufacturer’s data for a compressor receives power from a motor rated at 30 kW at 1320 rpm by means of V belts. The pulley diameters are 300mm and 750mm, center distance is 1.4m. take C- type belt and ks = 1.2.
